Izumi's goal to stay out of military conflicts didn't always mesh well with Iroh's duties, and the two sometimes disagreed about the best course of action when the United Republic called on Fire Nation aid.
Technically, her son Iroh is in line to the throne, but his status as a general in the United Forces made that uncertain. She shares her father's desire to continue to move away from the Fire Nation's brutal past. Izumi became famous for her efforts to reform the Fire Nation's government and cultivate peaceful relations with the other nations, including the United Republic of Nations. As Crown Princess of the Fire Nation, Izumi ascended to the throne as Fire Lord following her father's abdication in 167 AG.
At some point during her life she had a son, whom she named Iroh after her great-uncle, and a daughter. Izumi was born a princess of the Fire Nation to Fire Lord Zuko following the Hundred Year War.
